Look out for red flags!
The route goes onto all of the three military firing ranges, so it's important you know when to divert vs. keep on keeping on.
What to look out for
I took this photo on a day when I remembered to check the firing times. As you can see from the photo, we were on the safe side of the flag, but you can still see the ranges in the distance. Range boundaries are also marked by red-and-white posts. If live firing is taking place, there will be military personnel to make sure you do not enter by accident.
Dartmoor Firing Ranges
There are 3 firing ranges on Dartmoor.
- Willsworthy: at the 3km point you enter, then exit at 4km.
- Merrivale: at the 10km point you enter, then exit at 14km.
- Okehampton: at the 176km you enter, then exit at 190km.
